Chamba is one of the 112 Aspirational Districts (Backward Districts) of the country and part of the NITI Aayog led Aspirational District Programme where people are living in poor conditions. There is a lot of poverty and unemployment/underemployment. Current means of livelihood are limited. However, Chamba is rich in biodiversity, potential for hydropower is huge, has very old history and rich in terms of culture and crafts. The Mother Nature has showered its abundant beauty to this district. The district has many historical temples. We have high mountains, glaciers, places of pilgrims, lakes, etc. There are numerous tracks and routes for trekking. Therefore, there is huge potential of tourism activities in the district. With the COVID 19 pandemic large number of local youth who were working outside the district, many of them working in tourism sector, returned back to the district and were rendered unemployed. Therefore the “Chalo Chamba” campaign was launched with the aim of highlighting immense tourism potential of the district, showcase the unexplored destinations, as well as turning this as provider of employment.
